Person of interest detained as police investigate deadly shooting in Dublin

NBC Universal, Inc.

A man was shot and killed in Dublin Friday afternoon, according to police.

The shooting happened at about 2:20 p.m. at the Emerald Park Apartments in the 5000 block of Hacienda Drive.

Police said the man was found suffering from at least one gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to Dublin police, they are looking for a suspect and there was no apparent threat to public safety.

On Saturday, Dublin police said that a person of interest was detained in the Southern California community of Barstow at around noon. They added that their detectives continue to investigate the confirmation of the person's involvement in the incident.

The apartment complex management "had sent out an email, saying that there was a situation that police were involved in, but there was no immediate threat. All they said is we may have to park elsewhere," said a resident who asked her name not be disclosed.

The resident told NBC Bay Area that she then checked her front camera and said she saw police walking close to her unit with guns drawn. It wasn't until she went online to figure out what had happened.

“It seems like it would have been reasonable to tell us to stay inside instead of telling us there was no threat; that gives a false sense of security," she said.

Gabriel, another resident, said he's still in shock from learning about the incident.

"I'm still in disbelief; you don't really hear much coming out of Dublin. A lot of our neighbors here are all families, so any type of activity like this is surprising," he said.

Police said the investigation is ongoing.
