The Fremont Police Department is mourning the sudden death of its police captain.
“We are deeply saddened to announce the unexpected passing of Captain Frederick 'Freddie' H. Bobbitt Jr. We are all in shock and disbelief,” the department tweeted Monday.
The 54 year-old was the commander of the agency’s patrol division.
Bobbitt joined the Fremont Police Department in 1985, as a "police explorer" while he was still in high school.
He officially became a police officer in 1997.
