Group Builds Curbside Houses to Fight Homelessness in Oakland

NBCUniversal, Inc.

In a bold effort to build temporary housing in Oakland, a group called Right to Exist Curbside is building a temporary camp on East 12th Street. The group said the city’s approaches to homelessness are not working.

They’re choosing to build the camp on Martin Luther King Jr. weekend as both a symbolic and practical act. Dr. King was an advocate of affordable housing for all.

It’s not clear if the city will allow the housing to remain.
