All lanes of eastbound Highway 24 in Oakland were shut down for about two hours Tuesday afternoon for an investigation into a shooting along the freeway.
The California Highway Patrol took to social media at 12:50 p.m. to report that the eastbound lanes were shut down just west of Broadway. All lanes reopened just after 2:30 p.m.
The CHP said officers were dispatched to the area to investigate a possible freeway shooting. Officers were informed that a sedan had been hit by gunfire and that one person appeared to have been struck as well.
Once on scene, officers located the vehicle, but the victim was nowhere to be found, the CHP said.
"We later discovered that the victim had self transported to a local hospital with two non-life-threatening gunshot wounds to the legs, to both legs," CHP Officer Adib Zeid said.
During the highway closure, aerial footage showed officers walking across the lanes and stopping to apparently collect evidence.
There are cameras on this portion of Highway 24, according to the CHP, but officers would not disclose where they are or if they might have captured the incident.
