Father, Daughter Bicyclists Killed by Speeding SUV in Concord

A 17-year-old Concord boy was arrested on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter.

A father and his 9-year-old daughter were killed during a bike ride in Concord Saturday morning when an out of control SUV hit them, according to police. A second daughter was also injured.

The three were riding bicycles east on Treat Boulevard near the intersection of Oak Grove Road around 9:30 a.m. when they were hit by the SUV travelling west, police said.

Concord resident Solaiman Nuri, 41, was pronounced dead at the scene. His daughter Hadessa, 9, died shortly after arriving at John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek. A second daughter, 12, suffered minor injuries and was also taken to the hospital.

The 17-year-old driver of the SUV was treated for minor injuries then arrested on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter, police said.

All three cyclists were wearing helmets, police said.

The 2002 White Cadillac Escalade drove through the intersection, lost control, struck a fire hydrant, hit the three bicyclists, and then careened into a building, Contra Costa County Fire Protection District Fire Marshal Lewis Broschard said.

Emergency personnel responded to the scene after receiving a report of a vehicle striking a single bicyclist.
