Firefighters Control Two-Alarm Fire at Apartment Complex in Redwood City

Firefighters controlled a two-alarm, multi-floor, multi-unit apartment complex fire in Redwood City Saturday afternoon. Marianne Favro reports.

Firefighters have controlled a two-alarm fire at an apartment complex in Redwood City and roads in the surrounding area are closed.

The fire was reported at 3:59 p.m. at 2411 Middlefield Road, according to San Mateo County fire officials. Redwood City fire officials reported the fire controlled at 4:42 p.m.

Officials said the structure is a multi-floor, multi-unit apartment building. The department shared a photo on social media that showed serious exterior damage to the building.

Officials said no one was hurt, one woman suffered smoke inhalation but was treated at the scene and released.

"There was a fire in my building and I was really scared," said Jorge Delacruz who says someone pounded at his door telling him to get out. "There were people knocking on the doors yelling get out and when I got outside I saw the smoke."

Tenants in the burned units can't return home yet and more people maybe displaced because of smoke damage. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Middlefield Road from Woodside Road to Fair Oaks Lane is closed until further notice, according to Redwood City police.
