A high-speed chase ended in a horrific crash in Martinez early Friday morning.
The California Highway Patrol says it all started when officers tried to pull over a two-door Toyota Solara for driving recklessly just before 1 a.m.
The driver took off, leading officers on a short chase on Highway 4 before losing control and crashing near Alhambra Avenue.
The male driver was taken to Highland Hospital in Oakland and a female passenger needed to be airlifted to a hospital in Fairfield with unknown injuries.
