High Times Medical Cannabis Cup Dominates Sonoma County

"San Francisco" Cannabis Cup draws large crowd to Santa Rosa.

About 5,000 weed-minded individuals from all over the country trekked to the Sonoma County Fairgrounds over the weekend for the High Times Cannabis Cup, according to the Santa Rosa Press Democrat.

There, festival-goers sampled ice cream, took their fill of dabs -- hits of super-concentrated pot -- and otherwise partook of the finest the state's medical marijuana businesses have to offer.

The festival grounds, which played host to the Emerald Cup outdoor marijuana competition last winter, provided a hint of the potential California has for legalized marijuana, the newspaper reported.

Some cannabis club operators noticed a higher-than-expected contingent of families, suggesting that acceptance of the drug has grown.

Dan Skye, a High Times editorial director, told the newspaper that when California legalizes marijuana, a bigger population and capacity to grow cannabis in the Central Valley would easily make the region the nation's biggest marijuana market.
