A couple of families featured in the NBC Bay Area Investigative Unit’s recent reports on America’s immigration policies will be allowed to stay in the United States.
A U.S. federal immigration judge granted legal asylum Friday to one family living in the East Bay. They say they had to flee from their home in Honduras, where death squads raped the mother and daughter in front of the husband and father, and then threatened to kill them all.
The Investigative Unit also reported on a mother of two boys taking sanctuary in a Presbyterian church in Tucson, Arizona. The mother, Rosa Robles Loreto, returned to life outside the church this week. Apparently, her attorney reached an agreement with federal immigration authorities that she won’t be deported.
