James Lick High School Interim Vice Principal Arrested on Suspicion of Molestation: SJPD

Police say an interim vice principal at James Lick High School in San Jose has been arrested on suspicion of molestation. Peggy Bunker reports.

An interim vice principal at a San Jose high school has been arrested on suspicion of molestation, police said Wednesday.

Jose Gonzalez, 35, is accused of having an inappropriate relationship with a 17-year-old student at James Lick High School. He has been booked into the Santa Clara County Main Jail.

On Jan. 29, school staff heard of allegations Gonzalez was engaging in inappropriate behavior with students at the campus, police said.

Police said the school's internal investigation revealed the victim disclosed she had an inappropriate relationship with Gonzalez in July or August at his home in San Jose.

A follow-up investigation was conducted by police, who obtained an arrest warrant and took Gonzalez into custody at his residence on Tuesday.

East Side High School District Superintendent Chris Funk said Gonzalez has been placed on administrative leave.

Gonzalez, who has been with the district since 2008, was named James Lick High School's interim vice principal last month. He previously served as an adviser, assisting the vice principal of attendance and discipline. Gonzalez also is a coach with the varsity baseball and girls varsity volleyball teams, according to Funk.
