San Mateo County on Tuesday became the first in the United States to declare loneliness a public health crisis.
The Board of Supervisors voted unanimously to approve the declaration. Supervisors are hoping to raise money to, among other things, create a "minister of loneliness" position.
Meanwhile, a new app also aims to help people beat back loneliness.
