A female mail carrier was shot in the hip Friday when a stray bullet pierced the window of a United States Postal Service truck in East Oakland.
Two groups were shooting at each other and the woman was caught in the crossfire around 12:15 p.m. on the 5700 block of Bancroft Avenue, according to Oakland police.
The postal worker was seated in her vehicle when she was hit, said Gus Ruiz of USPS. She was taken to Highland Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Postal inspectors and Oakland police officers are at the scene of the shooting, Ruiz said, and the USPS truck is being processed for evidence.
Witness Vincent Awbrey said he took cover during the shooting and was left in shock.
"I couldn't see who he was shooting at," Awbrey said of the gunman. "I saw him running down the street firing shots."
Neighbors are frustrated over the violence and crime in the area.

"Can't even deliver mail now," resident Rosalind McMiller said. "Now it's so bad out here the mail carrier gets shot."

Postal Inspection Service is offering a $50,000 reward for information that leads to the arrest of those responsible for the shooting.
If suspects are arrested they will be prosecuted by the U.S. Attorney's Office, officials said.
