A San Jose man drowned in an East Bay lake Saturday, officials say.
The incident happened just before 4 p.m. at Lake Del Valle, located just south of Livermore.
The Alameda County Coroner's Office and family members identified the victim Sunday as 26-year-old Daniel Cullison of San Jose.
Witnesses told investigators they saw a man struggling in the water after he jumped in to recover an oar from his boat.
After searching through the evening, divers recovered the man's body at around 9:20 p.m. Saturday.
Cullison’s family said Daniel was a loving son and sibling and will be missed dearly by his parents and his 11 brothers and sisters.
First responders are urging everyone to wear life jackets while on the water.
"The biggest danger is going out into the water without a life jacket," said Acting Lt. Patrick Brookens, of the East Bay Regional Park Police Department. "We want to encourage everyone to wear a life jacket, especially if you're not a strong swimmer."
