San Jose police had a homicide suspect in custody Thursday morning after an hours-long standoff during which police evacuated homes in the area of North Fourth Street, where the suspect was barricaded, according to the police department.
The unidentified suspect was taken to a hospital for a self-inflicted gunshot wound, police said.
The scene was the same area where police found a man suffering life-threatening injuries from a shooting reported at 5:15 p.m. Wednesday in the 900 block of North Fourth Street. The victim later died, police confirmed Thursday morning.
Shortly after 8 p.m., San Jose police tweeted that they had located the suspect barricaded in the area of North Fourth Street, which was shut down in both directions from East Hedding Street to East Younger Street.
The fatal shooting is San Jose's 12th homicide of the year.
