San Jose police searched for attempted kidnapper Tuesday night after a man allegedly tried to take a two year old from her mother's arms.

The report was called in about 5:30 p.m. in the 200 block of Dayo Court in East San Jose, according to police.

A woman told police her daughter was playing in the front yard of their home with her other siblings when a man approached the children and said something to the two year old. The comment made the woman uncomfortable so she picked up her daughter to take her inside.

At that time the man tried to grab the child, according to police.

The woman said after a short struggle she was able to get her children away and into their home where she called police.

The man was last scene running off southbound on Paven Drive, according to police.

Police said they immediately canvassed the area and were unable to find the man. The only description is a man in his 20s wearing a red baseball cap, blue jeans and a white or tan shirt with yellow stripes.

The woman also told police he smelled like motor oil.
