A week before US Airways kicked a San Francisco man off of a plane for allowing his baggy pants to fall too low, the same airline allowed a man to fly wearing a purple bikini bottom, thigh-high stockings and platform shoes without a word.
A fellow passenger took at photo of the man outside the boarding gate and just minutes ahead of the June 9 flight from Florida to Phoenix.
Jill Tarlow told reporters that other passengers complained prior to boarding but were ignored. She said she did not complain at the airport, but called when she got home. She said the airline backed the decision to let the man on the plane.
US Airways spokeswoman Valerie Wunder also backed that decision saying that the airline does not have a dress code policy. "Obviously, if their private parts are exposed, that's not appropriate. So if they're not exposing their private parts, they're allowed to fly," Wunder told the paper.
Later Wednesday the airline released the following statement:
"Specific to Mr. Marman, US Airways personnel asked him to adjust his attire. When he refused to comply with crewmember instructions, he was asked to deplane. When he refused to comply with the request to deplane, local authorities boarded the plane and asked him to deplane. Upon exiting the plane and entering the jetway, he initiated a physical altercation with the police."
Deshon Marman was kicked off a US Airways flight for allegedly refusing to pull up his sagging pajama pants. The airline has said from the beginning that he wasn't removed for his attire, but for his refusal to comply with commands of their flight staff.
