Martin Luther King Jr. March Held in San Francisco

People worldwide are honoring the memory of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., including tributes in the Bay Area.

The San Francisco Recreation and Park Department honored Dr. King's accomplishments Saturday beginning with a march.

It took the group from the Bayview Opera House to the Martin Luther King Jr. Swimming Pool where community leaders spoke and local groups performed in Dr. King's honor.

The group also teamed up with Habitat for Humanity to clear up the pool area as part of The National Day of Service in honor and remembrance of Dr. King.

"We were fortunate enough to get some support from Kaiser this year, so we're able to ramp up our efforts and do a little more work and really focus on some projects that really the staff just isn't able to get to," said Sara Brissenden-Smith, who is the Community Engagement Manager at Habitat for Humanity. "We're just really happy to be here. It's a beautiful day, and we're excited to have so many folks come out on such an important and celebratory day."

About 200 volunteers were part of Saturday's tribute and clean-up effort.
