One suspect was in custody and a gun was recovered Tuesday night after the AMC Metreon 16 in San Francisco was evacuated on reports of a gunman inside, according to the San Francisco Police Department.
Details about the incident were vague, but Officer Grace Gatpandan said police officers cleared the building, taking one person into custody and recovering a handgun. No injuries were reported.
Theater employees said movie goers panicked when a man pulled a gun out in theater 10 and pointed it at people. Employees said they hid and then directed police to where the gunman was located.
One man who was on his way to the theater was thankful he wasn't inside when the incident took place.
"Scary. I'm glad I wasn't there," said Simon Tam of San Francisco. "It's a terrible thing."
It was not immediately clear how the incident started, but police said someone called 911 about 7:55 p.m. saying there was a person inside the theater possibly armed with a gun. Gatpandan said the investigation was still active and asked the public to avoid the area at Fourth and Mission streets.
There were no reports of shots being fired.
