Mountain View voted to crack down on parking in its downtown area in anticipation of football fans who might want to park in the nearby city when Levi's Stadium in nearby Santa Clara is finally finished.
The pilot program was approved 6-1 Tuesday with Councilman John Inks as the lone no vote, the Daily News first reported.
The vote means that there is now a three-hour parking limit at 11 structures and lots in the downtown area from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. when events are held on weekdays and from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. when events are held on weekends.
All-day paid parking will be available at structure 1 and lots 4, 8 and 9. The price will depend on what Caltrain ultimately chooses to charge for its lot at the Mountain View Transit Center.
Street parking in the greater downtown, Willowgate Street and Jackson Street neighborhoods will also be limited to three hours from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. when events are held at the stadium. However, each household will receive two permits for all-day parking.
According to Mountain View staff, the rules make is so that people have enough time to visit downtown but not attend a football game.
