A standoff in Mountain View has ended peacefully.

Officers surrounded a home in the 1000 block of Williams Way on Wednesday afternoon, trying to convince an armed man who barricaded himself inside to give himself up, police said.

The incident started shortly before 1 p.m. when police received a call from a person who said they were concerned about the man who was “depressed” inside the home, police spokesman Shino Tanaka said.

Mountain View’s SWAT team setup around the perimeter of the home as trained hostage negotiation officers were talking to the man from outside the residence this afternoon, Tanaka said.

About 6:15 p.m., the man was detained by police without incident.

For hours, the man refused to leave the home and at one point brandished a firearm, according to Tanaka.

He had his 13-year-old daughter with him at the home but authorities were able to get her out safely early on in the ordeal, police said.

Police also evacuated five or six neighbors out of concern for their safety, Tanaka said.
