The world just got Newsomier. San Francisco's first family announced via Twitter that they are the proud parents of a baby girl.
San Francisco Mayor and gubernatorial hopeful Gavin Newsom and his wife welcomed Montana Tessa Newsom into the world at 12:39 p.m. She is 20.5 inches long and 7 pounds, 12 ounces. The couple was married in Montana and Tessa is Newsom's later mother's name. Newsom reported that both baby and mother are doing well.
The mayor tweeted to his more than one million followers that he had taken his pregnant wife, actress Jennifer Siebel Newsom, to the hospital just before noon on Friday. The baby was scheduled to be due next Thursday.
"Arrived at hospital -- hours away from becoming a father," Newsom tweeted. Less than 20 minutes later, the hours turned into minutes. "Ok... I'm nervous-- 10 minutes and we begin," the mayor tweeted at 12:14 p.m. Just over 20 minutes, later and the couple's first child was in their arms.
Newsom shared the news via Twitter just before 2 p.m., which got the mayor in trouble with his wife.
"Jen doing great.. Not sure she is happy I am on twitter," he tweeted.
In April the couple announced -- via a press secretary and not Twitter -- they were expecting a baby girl. The announcement was made shortly after Newsom tweeted his intention to run for governor.
But the campaign trail has not kept the busy mayor from preparing for the big day. He turned to his closest Twitter friends for advice on diapers and feeding. And recently, 15 of his closest friends took him to a San Francisco Giants game for a Dadchelor's Party.
San Francisco's first family also bought a new home to make room for the baby, where they already started receiving gifts, albeit unwelcome ones. The couple was married in the summer of 2007.
