Oakland Mother Arrested, Accused of Leaving Kids – Ages 2 and 3 – in Car While She Gambled at Livermore Casino

An Oakland woman has been arrested for suspicion of child endangerment for allegedly leaving her two young children in her locked car on Sunday while she was gambling inside a casino in Livermore, police said.

Livermore officers responded to a call that two small children had been left unattended in a locked vehicle in the 900 block of North Canyons Parkway in Livermore at about 6:10 p.m. on Sunday.

They found two children, ages 2 and 3, who were strapped into their car seats and unattended, Livermore police said. Phaley Nget, 37, was charged with two counts of child endangerment on Wednesday.

The childrens' mother, Nget, was gambling inside Casino 580, according to police.

The children weren't injured, but Nget was arrested and the children were taken into protective custody, police said.

Livermore police said they want to remind the public that leaving children unattended in a vehicle even for a minute is not safe.

They said the body heat regulatory systems for children are less efficient than they are for adults so children can overheat three to five time faster than adults can.
