A woman who was reportedly running erratically on Interstate 880 in Oakland on Tuesday night was struck by a vehicle and killed, a spokesperson for California Highway Patrol said.
CHP began to get reports of a woman between the ages of 30 and 40 running in the lanes of northbound Intestate 880 at High Street around 9:30 p.m.
By 9:30 p.m., CHP received a report of a pedestrian struck by vehicle.
A preliminary investigation points to the woman being struck in the fast lane by a dark-colored pickup truck, the driver of which remained at the scene and was cooperative, CHP said.
By 9:47 p.m., CHP had shut down three lanes, leaving only one lane open to traffic.
As of 11 p.m., three lanes remained shut down and there was no estimated time of re-opening them, CHP said.
