A string of violent events, including a man ramming his car into a police car and stabbing a police dog multiple times, has ended with an arrest in Walnut Creek.
Rolando Gonzalez, 33, has been charged with felony hit and run, assault with a deadly weapon, harming a police dog, driving under the influence and resisting arrest after a wild police chase Saturday night in the East Bay neighborhood, police said.
Gonzalez's rage commenced when he struck a pedestrian with his car in the 200 block of Wooten Drive. A witness immediately tried to confront Gonzalez, but Gonzalez nearly ran over the witness in an attempt to flee the scene, according to police.
Law enforcement officials were able to locate Gonzalez a short time later near Parkside Drive and Hillside Avenue. Continuing his violent behavior, Gonzalez collided head-on with a squad car before darting from his badly-damaged vehicle and making a beeline for some bushes, police said.
Gonzalez failed to comply with any arrest attempt, resulting in officers deploying Tasers, bean-bag shot guns and a police dog to gain compliance. Amid the scuffle, Gonzalez managed to stab the dog several times, police said.
The ordeal eventually came to an end, and Gonzalez was taken into custody.
In total, four people and one dog sustained injuries. Gonzalez was transported to the hospital with unknown injuries. The officer suffered serious injuries, but they are not life-threatening, according to police.

The original hit-and-run victim and eyewitness sustained minor injuries. The police dog was treated for its injuries and is expected to make a full recovery, police said.
