Two people were killed after a car went down a cliff on Highway 1 near Devil's Slide on Friday, the California Highway Patrol said.
Just before 11:30 a.m., the CHP said they responded to a report of a vehicle off the side of a road on Highway 1 just south of Devil's Slide. This incident caused Highway 1 to be shut down in both directions.
Devil's Slide is about 5 miles south of Pacifica.
According to the CHP, a gray, two-door sedan came to rest at approximately 300 to 400 feet down an embankment.
They added that rescues crews with Cal Fire and Pacifica fire assisted with the search. CHP said that rescuers determined that two people were inside of the car and they were pronounced dead at the scene.
The area was closed due to the investigation but all lanes of Highway 1 were reopened just after 3 p.m.
No other details were released.
