A teenage suspect linked to a high-speed crash that killed a Peninsula couple is expected to appear in court Tuesday.
The judge is expected to decide whether or not the 17-year-old will be released into parent custody.
Grace Spiridon and Greg Ammen were killed in November when the unidentified teen collided with their car in Redwood City.
Officers arrested him at the scene, and also arrested 23-year-old Kyle Harrison as a second suspect. Harrison already pleaded not guilty and remains in custody.
Investigators believe both suspects were racing more at more than 80 miles-per-hour on El Camino Real.
The parents of the teenager asked the judge to release him into their custody because he's in a wheelchair, but prosecution responded that the teen is a risk to the public.
Prosecutors also claimed that the teen posted videos of himself speeding days before the crash.
The judge denied the parents' motion to release the teen saying his medical needs are being met.
"We think he's both a threat to public safety, and we think there's a danger of flight," the judge said. "He's facing extremely serious charges."
The next hearing was set for February, which is when they'll decide if the teen will be tried as an adult.
