Police were investigating a fatal officer-involved shooting Thursday in San Jose, SJPD confirmed.
The shooting occurred at about 2:25 p.m. in the 2300 block of McKee Road, near Jackson Avenue, after officers received reports of a man armed with a gun, police said.
The man was taken to a nearby hospital, where he later died, police said. No officers were injured.
Witnesses told NBC Bay Area they saw the man carrying a rifle.
"Cops ended up shooting him, and the guy had a rifle," Eddie Molina said.
Streets were still shut down in the area while police investigated the shooting late Thursday night.
The suspect's identity was not released, and police did not say what led up to the shooting or how many shots were fired.
