BART is investigating a police shooting that took place in the parking lot of the Union City station Monday night.
BART police officers responded at about 8:57 p.m. to the parking lot to investigate a report of reckless driving, the transit agency said.
Two responding officers conducted a traffic stop. During that stop, an officer-involved shooting occurred, BART said.
"During the traffic stop, the driver is alleged to have assaulted a police officer, which led to one of the officers discharging their firearm," BART police Chief Kevin Franklin said Tuesday.
The driver, identified as 32-year-old Jasmine Gao of Union City, was shot in the upper body and taken to a hospital for treatment, Franklin said. She was listed in serious but stable condition.
After she's medically cleared, Gao will be charged with assault with a deadly weapon on police, reckless evading, failure to follow a court order and resisting arrest with an enhancement of committing a felony while out on her own recognizance, Franklin said.
Gao had two outstanding arrest warrants, Franklin added.

Both officers' body-warn cameras were "activated," Franklin said.
BART police closed the station during the investigation.

BART's Office of the Independent Police Auditor was notified and responded to the scene to investigate, the transit agency said.
