Police: Walnut Creek Man Fatally Stabs Family Dog

A 37-year old Walnut Creek man killed German Shepherd with knife, according to charges.

A 37-year old Walnut Creek man was in court on Thursday on charges that he fatally stabbed the family dog, according to reports.

Todd Powers was charged in May with one count of felony animal cruelty after he used a "long knife" to kill his family's 10-month-old German shepherd in April 2012, according to the Contra Costa Times.

He killed the dog -  named Seven - because it was acting up: The dog was "killing backyard chickens" and was "nipping at [Powers's] young children," according to animal services officials.
