Preliminary 2.8 magnitude earthquake strikes South Bay

A preliminary 2.8 magnitude earthquake struck near San Jose Monday evening, according to the United States Geological Survey. 

The quake, which hit at 5:39 p.m. Monday was centered 9.7 miles east of the Seven Trees area of San Jose.
