A resident suffered smoke inhalation at the scene of a three-alarm vegetation fire that threatened about 40 homes in Antioch Tuesday evening, a Contra Costa County fire marshal said.
Firefighters have largely contained the blaze that was reported at 7:22 p.m. in the 5100 block of Pawnee Drive between Indian Hill and Prewett Ranch drives, Contra Costa County Fire Protection District Fire Marshal Robert Marshall said.
The blaze spread across about 4 acres of a park located about a block from Diablo Vista Elementary School, Marshall said.
At the height of the fire, flames reached 50 to 60 feet in the air and threatened to spread to about 40 nearby homes, Marshall said.
Firefighters were able to stop the flames from spreading to nearby homes and had the fire largely contained by 8:39 p.m., Marshall said.
According to Marshall, overhead transmission lines were also threatened by the high rising flames, but were ultimately not damaged by the blaze.

Marshall said that while no homes were reported damaged, a number of metal and plastic fences on surrounding properties caught fire and were damaged in the blaze.
The fire marshal said that weather was cooperating Tuesday night, with low temperatures, low winds and high humidity, making conditions manageable.
Fire crews are expected to remain at the scene tonight to monitor hotspots, the fire marshal said.
One resident was treated for smoke inhalation and released at the scene, Marshall said.
No injuries to firefighters or other residents have been reported and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
