San Francisco Bicyclists to Bare All for 10th Annual Naked Bike Ride

Bicyclists — as well as exhibitionists — are gearing up for the 10th Annual World Naked Bike Ride happening in San Francisco this weekend.

The ride begins Saturday at 11 a.m. just west of the Ferry Building along The Embarcadero. From there, the stripped cyclists will travel through iconic San Francisco areas like Fisherman's Wharf, the Marina, Lombard Street, North Beach, Civic Center, Haight-Ashbury and the Castro, although riders can join at any point, according to organizers.

While the ride is billed as a naked one, organizers encourage participants to wear "creative fashion with clear bubble wrap or translucent vinyl."

Previous naked bike rides have never garnered citations or complaints, organizers said, but they recommend that totally nude riders bring a beach wrap, shorts, or a sarong just in case a quick cover-up is needed.

The naked bike ride is part of a global protest against fossil fuel dependency, with similar rides happening in other cities, organizers said.
