David DePape, the man found guilty in federal court earlier this month of attacking Rep. Nancy Pelosi's husband, could receive a plea deal on state charges in the case after his lawyer and prosecutors discussed a settlement in court Wednesday.
DePape was not in court, but San Francisco prosecutors and his public defender conferred with the judge, and another hearing was scheduled for 9 a.m. Thursday to determine a settlement date.
DePape is facing a handful of state charges, including attempted murder, after he allegedly assaulted Paul Pelosi with a hammer in the Pelosis' San Francisco home in October 2022.
DePape was convicted on federal charges earlier in November and is awaiting sentencing in that case.
Public defender Adam Lipson said they are looking to settle the state case after the federal conviction, citing the lengthy sentence.
"He's already been convicted of his federal charges, facing a lengthy federal sentence already, so anything’s possible at this point," Lipson said.
