Police make arrest in fatal shooting near BART station in San Francisco

Suspect is identified as 18-year-old Sacramento man, and a gun was found in close proximity to him

One person is dead following a shooting near a BART station in San Francisco's shopping district Thursday night, and police said Friday they've made an arrest.

Investigators identified the suspect as 18-year-old Daveon Crawford of Sacramento. A gun was found in close proximity to Crawford at the time of his arrest, police said.

The shooting was first reported in the area of Powell and Market streets, near the Powell Street BART station, at around 8:40 p.m. Thursday. When officers arrived, they found a male victim with at least one gunshot wound. He was transported to the hospital where he later died, police said.

The Powell Street BART station entrance was closed while police investigated, the agency said.

Crawford was booked into San Francisco County Jail on suspicion of murder, polce said. A juvenile female he was with was turned over to her guardian.
