Hundreds of PG&E customers in San Francisco are expected to be without power until Saturday after an underground equipment failure caused an outage affecting thousands Wednesday night, a utility spokesperson said.
The utility confirmed Thursday morning the San Francisco outage started at about 9:15 p.m. Wednesday, affecting more than 9,400 customers.
The outage was spread across the city's Nob Hill, Tenderloin and North Beach neighborhoods as well as the financial district and Fisherman's Wharf, according to PG&E's outage map.
As of 11 a.m. Thursday, power had been restored to all but about 1,000 of those customers, and crews were working "as quickly as possible" to restore power to all, PG&E said.
PG&E estimated power would be restored to all customers by noon Thursday. However, 495 are still without power in the area of the damaged equipment, and the estimated restoration time for them is not until 10 a.m. Saturday, PG&E spokesperson Mayra Tostado said.
"We know how disruptive it is to be without power and have brought in additional crews and resources to bolster restoration efforts," she said. "We apologize for the inconvenience and will continue to provide restoration updates to our customers until power is fully restored."
