San Jose Airport Gets $3.4 Million to Upgrade Perimeter Fences

The feds are moving to plug the security gaps at San Jose's international airport.

The Federal Aviation Administration is awarding Mineta San José International Airport a grant of $3.4 million.

The airport has seen several incidents since last year, when a teenager stowed away in an airplane wheel well.

The money will allow SJC to better secure its 8,600-feet of perimeter, including raising the fence to 10-feet-high and topping it with razor wire.

There will also be unspecified high-tech improvements.

The new fence should be finished by May 2016.
