A large barn and outbuilding were destroyed in a three-alarm fire in San Jose early Tuesday morning, a fire captain said.
At 12:12 a.m., firefighters responded to a report of a structure fire at 1186 E. William Court, Fire Capt. Mike Van Elgort said.
Crews arrived to find the blaze at a barn and outbuilding adjacent to one another at the rear of the property, fire officials said.
A third-alarm response was called because of the size of the fire, the dry conditions and about a half-dozen homes threatened by the blaze, according to Van Elgort.
The fire was under control at 2:20 a.m., a fire dispatcher said.
No animals were inside the barn, Van Elgort said.
Investigators believe the blaze was related to homeless people living inside the barn. No one was inside the barn when fire crews arrived, according to Van Elgort.

Neighbors were advised to shelter in place while firefighters worked to extinguish the blaze, he said.
No injuries were reported.
