San Jose just barely beat out Santa Cruz as the healthiest city in the U.S., according to a study done by The Atlantic.

The ranking was done by The Atlantic columnist Richard Florida, who looked at data from 315 regions, based on the level of smoking and obesity in each region. The data came from the federal Centers of Disease Control and Prevention.

The Oakland tribune says Santa Cruz's share of smokers is 11%, with its share of obesity at 18%, while San Jose had a slightly higher amount of obesity at 19.1%, but a much lower share of smokers at 9.8%.

Napa, San Francisco, San Luis Obispo County, Los Angeles, Santa Barbera-Santa Maria, Salinas and San Diego were all in the top 15.
