Man dies amid heat wave in San Jose

NBC Universal, Inc.

A man in San Jose died amid a heat wave in the Bay Area, Mayor Matt Mahan and police said on Wednesday.

San Jose police told NBC Bay Area that just before 8 p.m. Tuesday, they responded to a report of a man who was found dead. They added that there were no signs of foul play.

Meteorologist Kari Hall tracks the continued heat wave and impacts in the Microclimate Forecast.

San Jose Mayor Matt Mahan released the following statement on X on Wednesday night:

"Yesterday, a homeless neighbor lost their life on our streets due to the heat. This was an avoidable tragedy and exactly why we’re moving with urgency to create enough basic, dignified shelter for everyone — it’s not compassionate to leave people suffering in unmanaged, unsheltered and unsafe conditions. We’ll be keeping our cooling centers open late through July 9th — please help spread the word."

San Jose police added that the Santa Clara County Coroner's Office is investigating the incident.
