A 29-year-old teacher at a San Jose charter school was arrested Wednesday for allegedly having a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old student, police said Thursday.
The allegations against Zachary Drew of San Jose, a teacher at Summit Tahoma Charter School, came to light when a concerned parent reported rumors to police about Drew having a relationship with a student sometime in 2015, police said.
Investigators contacted school officials, who had already completed an internal investigation and identified the suspect and victim.
Police interviewed everyone involved and obtained a warrant for Drew's arrest. He turned himself in to police on Wednesday.
Drew was booked into jail on suspicion of three counts of sexual intercourse with a minor and three counts of lewd and lascivious acts with a minor, all felonies, according to police.
Anyone with information about the case has been asked to contact Detective Jourdenais at 408-537-1381 or the tip line at 408-947-STOP.
