Santa Clara County Sheriff Seeks Suspicious Man Near PG&E Substation

Santa Clara County sheriff’s deputies on Wednesday said that guards at the South San Jose PG&E substation saw a suspicious man in black walking near their property, and they are now seeking his whereabouts. Bob Redell reports.

Santa Clara County sheriff's deputies on Wednesday said that guards at the South San Jose PG&E substation saw a suspicious man walking near their property, and they are now seeking his whereabouts.

Spokesman Kurtis Stenderup said guards on routine patrol spotted the man, who was wearing all black, about 3 a.m. He was walking in a field in the southwest corner of the substation on Coyote Ranch Road. When they shined a flashlight at him, Stenderup, said he ran.

Authorities are on high alert because this is the same substation that was vandalized in April. A transformer at a the same substation on Metcalf Road and Monterey Highway was vandalized, most likely damaged by gunfire.

Sheriff Laurie Smith said the act  in April was one of "sabotage."

PG&E is paying a sheriff's deputy to help its guards be on the lookout.
