Santa Cruz Sheriffs are searching for the owner of what could be a priceless memorabilia of someone's time in the Navy decades ago.
Santa Cruz County Sheriff's Office on Wednesday said deputies found a photo album filled with black and white pictures of what appears to be naval officers on ships and other photos of Japanese architecture, in the woods near New Brighton Road and McGregor Drive in November.
"We believe it was stolen and thoughtlessly tossed aside," the sheriff's office said on Facebook.
The album cover displays a design of Japan with an illustration of Mount Fuji, as well as a peacock and other colorful leaves and flowers. On the inside, dozens of photos are carefully arranged and framed.
Some of the photos show what appears to be the Itsukushima Shrine located in the city of Hatsukaichi in Hiroshima. Most of the photos show officers on a ship.
The Sheriff's Office said there were no identifying notes anywhere on the album. Authorities asked anyone with information about the owner of the album to call (831) 471-1121.
