San Francisco emergency officials activated a warning siren this afternoon, triggering some confusion among residents.

The siren, which sounded around 3:45 p.m., were activated accidentally, and there was no emergency, according to the San Francisco Department of Emergency Management.

The sirens are normally heard only on Tuesdays at noon, when they are tested, or during emergencies.
