Family Raises Safety Concerns After Man Fatally Shot in Oakland's Little Saigon

NBC Universal, Inc.

The family of a man killed in Oakland's Little Saigon is calling for more police protection in the area while police work to solve the brutal murder of Patrick Fung.

Video released by police earlier this week shows the rideshare and food delivery driver killed not far from his home near Little Saigon on Sunday morning. Police are asking for the public's help in identifying the suspects and hope the video will help track them down.

The Oakland Police Department also introduced a new captain assigned to the city's Chinatown in wake of the crime and safety concerns.

Fung's girlfriend, Judy, through an interpreter on Wednesday said she doesn't think police are paying enough attention to the neighborhood.

Judy's son, who also is a rideshare driver, said through an interpreter they are living in fear and detailed similar crimes he was a victim of in the area.

The community has started a GoFundMe page to help with funeral costs, Judy said, adding any extra funding will be used to take care of her dad and Fung’s father.
