Authorities in Vallejo are investigating the death of a man who police believe was shot by an off-duty Richmond Police Department officer.
The shooting happened around 5:25 p.m. Sunday along the 500 block of Fairgrounds Drive, according to Vallejo police.
Responding officers found the victim suffering from at least one gunshot wound. He was later pronounced dead at the scene.
According to Vallejo police, the "other party involved" in the shooting was an off-duty Richmond Police officer.
The victim had not been formally identified by police as of 9:30 p.m. Sunday.
But several social media accounts have reported that the victim is Eric "CheddaMan" Reason. Photos posted on some accounts show a large crowd of people gathered Sunday night near the intersection of Fairgrounds Drive and Sereno Drive, where a Valero gas station and JJ's Fish and Chicken restaurant is located.
The Vallejo Police Department and Solano County District Attorney's office are investigating the incident.
Authorities have not yet said what led to the shooting. Vallejo police said the investigation "is in the very early stages."
