San Jose firefighters helped save a church that caught fire Friday afternoon and arson investigators are looking into how it started.
The incident happened at the Center for the Spiritual Enlightenment on University Avenue just after 1 p.m.
No one was hurt, but firefighters said putting out the flames was challenging. They had to use aerial ladders to shoot water down into the flames.
“Initially access was difficult because the lots are very deep, and it's in between two separate lots, but firefighters were able to arrive within five minutes and start suppressions,” said San Jose Fire Department Captain John Lee.
Investigators say most of the damage was to the exterior of the church.
They believe the fire started near a shed at the end of the building.
