A driver struck and killed a pedestrian in San Jose Wednesday morning, according to police.
The collision happened at about 6:30 a.m. in the area of Sherlock and Kimball drives, police said.
Citing a preliminary investigation, police said the driver, a man, was heading north on Sherlock Drive when he struck the pedestrian, a woman, as she was crossing at the Kimball Drive intersection.
The woman was taken to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries and later pronounced dead, police said. Her identity will be released by the Santa Clara County Coroner's Office.
The driver stayed at the scene and cooperated with authorities, according to police.
This marks the third pedestrian death in San Jose this year, police said.
