Santa Clara County Sheriff's officials have confirmed that a family staying at a South Lake Tahoe Airbnb rental found a gun and badge that may belong to one of its deputies.
Sheriff's officials said Monday the gun was not a department issued firearm.
The department has launched an internal investigation, but investigators do not believe that the gun and badge were stolen, rather that they were most likely left behind.
A department spokesperson said that the Sheriff's Office is thankful nobody was hurt.
No other information was immediately available.
