Stabbing at San Jose school: Victim taken to hospital, suspect in custody

NBC Universal, Inc.

A student at the Latino College Preparatory Academy was taken into custody Thursday on suspicion of stabbing another student, police said.

The stabbing happened at the charter school located on the 14000 block of Story Road around 8 a.m., according to police.

The student who was stabbed was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

Both the victim and the suspect are juveniles, according to police. It's unclear if both were students at the school.

Police said there was no threat to public safety, adding that officers will be at the campus for some time conducting an investigation.

Parents said they received a call from the school that said the facility was on lockdown, but no other information was provided.

"We just received a call a couple of hours ago that the kids were in lockdown," said Eliazar Ortiz, a parent of a student who attends the school. "When we tried to call the school to get information, the only thing they said was, ‘Something happened at the school.’"

The Latino College Preparatory Academy declined NBC Bay Area's request for comment.
