Stevens Creek Reopens at 880 After Big-Rig Truck Hits Traffic Signal Pole

Police say a big rig was carrying a portable building Wednesday morning when it knocked out a power signal.

A big-rig that collided with a traffic signal pole on Stevens Creek Boulevard near Interstate Highway 880 in San Jose Wednesday morning prompted the California Highway Patrol to issue a Sig-alert for the affected area.

The incident was reported at 6:32 a.m. on Stevens Creek Boulevard at North Monroe Street, CHP Officer Eric Anderson said.

The Stevens Creek off-ramp from Interstate 880 is closed in both directions, according to San Jose Police Department spokesperson Sgt. Heather Randol. Westbound Stevens Creek Boulevard from southbound Interstate Highway 880 was also closed to due power lines down in the roadway, according to Anderson.

Stevens Creek remained closed throughout the day Wednesday. Caltrans reopened the roadway by 7:35 p.m.

Electrical wires were exposed, posing a safety concern for motorists, Randol said in an email statement.

No lanes of I-880 were affected by the lane closures, Anderson said.

The driver of the truck, which was carrying a portable building, suffered minor injuries, Randol said.

VTA Bus Line 323 was rerouted due to the accident.
